Invariant Fields of Symplectic and Orthogonal Groups

چکیده
The projective orthogonal and symplectic groups POn(F ) and PSpn(F ) have a natural action on the F vector space V ′ = Mn(F ) ⊕ . . . ⊕ Mn(F ). Here we assume F is an infinite field of characteristic not 2. If we assume there is more than one summand in V , then the invariant fields F (V )n and F (V )n are natural objects. They are, for example, the centers of generic algebras with the appropriate kind of involution. This paper considers the rationality properties of these fields, in the case 1, 2 or 4 are the highest powers of 2 that divide n. We derive rationality when n is odd, or when 2 is the highest power, and stable rationality when 4 is the highest power. In a companion paper [ST] joint with Tignol, we prove retract rationality when 8 is the highest power of 2 dividing n. Back in this paper, along the way, we consider two generic ways of forcing a Brauer class to be in the image of restriction. AMS Subject Classification: 16K20, 12E15, 14L24, 14L30

A matrix approach to the rational invariants of certain classical groups over finite fields of characteristic two
Let Fq be a finite field of characteristic two and Fq(X1, . . . , Xn) a rational function field. We use matrix methods to obtain explicit transcendental bases of the invariant subfields of orthogonal groups and pseudo-symplectic groups on Fq(X1, . . . , Xn) over Fq.

Suppose $G$ is a split connected reductive orthogonal or symplectic group over an infinite field $F,$ $P=MN$ is a maximal parabolic subgroup of $G,$ $frak{n}$ is the Lie algebra of the unipotent radical $N.$ Under the adjoint action of its stabilizer in $M,$ every maximal prehomogeneous subspaces of $frak{n}$ is determined.

The centers of the generic central simple algebras with involution are interesting objects in the theory of central simple algebras. These fields also arise as invariant fields for linear actions of projective orthogonal or symplectic groups. In this paper, we prove that when the characteristic is not 2, these fields are retract rational, in the case the degree is 8m and m is odd. We achieve th...
متن کاملThe Discriminant of a Symplectic Involution
An invariant for symplectic involutions on central simple algebras of degree divisible by 4 over fields of characteristic different from 2 is defined on the basis of Rost’s cohomological invariant of degree 3 for torsors under symplectic groups. We relate this invariant to trace forms and show how its triviality yields a decomposability criterion for algebras with symplectic involution.
